Instructional Leagues

Grades 1 through 3

We have two Instructional Leagues for Mt. Lebanon girls in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Their seasons run from early April through late June.

The 1st Grade Instructional League is our introductory program. Coaches will provide extensive instruction during practices and often remain on the field during the games to assist players. Usually there are two games a week where the girls have the opportunity to play in a non-competitive structure. Score is not kept and there are no league standings or champions. Batting will be against adult pitchers, and every player who attends a game will participate in batting and fielding.

Our 2nd and 3rd Grade Instructional League is similar to our 1st Grade League, but it takes into account the more developed skills of the older children. Coaches are still encouraged to instruct the players the same as in the younger league. Usually there are two games a week where the girls have the opportunity to play in a non-competitive structure. Score is not kept and there are no league standings or champions. On field participation by coaches and parents is lessened compared to 1st Grade League. The same participation rules are used. Batting will be against adult pitchers during the first half of the season. In the second half of the season, girls interested in pitching will begin to take the mound in game situations.

Teams in this league are organized around the various Mt. Lebanon elementary schools as much as possible. However, it's often not possible to get all the girls from a particular school on just one team, so teams may be comprised of players from a couple of different schools.
