Announcing Summer Softball for Junior Leaguers!

UpdatedSunday June 28, 2020 byMLGSA.

The MLGSA is excited to announce a summer slow-pitch program for our Junior League players! This will be a short 4½ week league for girls who just completed 4th and 5th grades. Practices and games will start July 8th and finish on August 8th. The schedule will allow for approximately 10 games/practices over the course of the season.
As usual for the Junior League, we will try to make the teams “competitive” by having a skill level mix on each team. Usually, this involves having teams comprised of players from multiple schools, but we do our best to have several girls from the same school/grade on a team so all players will already know a few of their teammates.
You can register right now by clicking here.
Here's a quick Q&A that will hopefully answer any questions that you might have ...
Q. What’s it cost?
A. We are running the summer Junior League program to cover our costs only, so it’s only a $50 fee. Please note, we do offer need-based aide, so please ask if you need assistance!
Q. What safety precautions will the MLGSA be taking to keep our players, coaches and families safe?
A. Using recommendations already laid out by USA Softball as a guide, we plan to incorporate a number safety precautions to keep our players safe in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Just a few of those precautions include:
  • No sharing of personal equipment, including batting helmets
  • Half-hour “turnover” times in between games so four teams aren’t at the same location at once
  • Social distancing in the dugout areas
  • Hand sanitizer made available to all teams
  • Limiting attending family members at games to only two per player
  • Not allowing the use of bleachers at the fields that have them
Q. Will there be public restrooms at the fields?
A. Probably not. The CDC Guidelines are very strict about restroom maintenance, and right now it doesn’t look feasible to have portable restrooms at our fields. We are discussing options with the school district and municipality, but, as of right now, please don’t count on facilities being available!
Q. Can I borrow personal protective equipment (PPE) for my player?
A. The MLGSA will have some PPE, most notably batting helmets, available to loan out for the season to players on a first-come, first-serve basis for no cost. We will have specialized PPE equipment for each team -- things like catcher’s helmets, fielder’s masks and heart guards for pitchers -- for players to use which will be sanitized after each use. However, we do recommend you consider purchasing your own equipment if you have a player who plans on using the specialized PPE a lot (for example, if you know your daughter will be pitching). If you are interested in borrowing PPE for the season, please check the box when you register, and we’ll get in touch with you before the season begins.
